Anonymous writes "U.N. peacekeeping troops will remain for at least two months longer in Chad and the Central African Republic while negotiations are held over the mission’s future.
The U.N. Security Council voted unanimously Friday to extend the struggling U.N. mission known as MINURCAT until May 15 to allow more time for negotiations between the United Nations and Chad.
The compromise came after Chad’s Ambassador Ahmad Allam-mi told the council the nation had reconsidered its earlier request that more than 2,700 U.N. peacekeeping troops to be withdrawn and replaced with the country’s own military along the border with Sudan.
The council agreed the region’s problems continue to be a threat to international peace and security.
