SECURITY OVERVIEW

 

THE GENERAL SITUATION IN THE MISSION AREA REMAINS STABLE.

 

 

 

PRISTINA REGION

 

 

TRESPASS

At 1015 hrs, eleven Albanian males broke through the barbed wire fence into the VJ barracks in PRISTINA, guarded by British KFOR. UNMIK Police was dispatched to the scene and assisted KFOR to detain all eleven suspects. They were taken to the detention center, where they were photographed, finger printed and then released.

 

THREATS TO UNMIK POLICE

At 1715 hrs, an Albanian male was stopped for reckless driving and was believed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs in PRISTINA. Minimum force had to be used in order to arrest the suspect and take him to the detention center for photographing and finger printing. Upon being released, the individual threatened to kill an UNMIK Police officer and was booked back to the detention center for further investigation.

 

ASSAULT ON UNMIK POLICE OFFICER / RESISTING ARREST

At 0330 hrs, UNMIK Police patrol unit arrested an Albanian male in PRISTINA who failed to stop his vehicle upon the Police demand. The suspect assaulted an UNMIK Police officer and resisted arrest. The investigation is ongoing.

 

ARMED ROBBERY

At 1100 hrs, two unidentified armed men entered the office of  “Libertas” agency located on Mother Theresa Street in PRISTINA. They tied up one worker, stuffed something in his mouth and robbed him of 5000-6000 DM. Both suspects (reportedly Albanians) fled on foot. UNMIK Police are investigating.

 

ARRESTS 

Five individuals were arrested during the past 24 hours in PRISTINA. One individual was arrested for driving intoxicated, one for assault and another for attempted theft. Two suspects were arrested for reckless and drunk driving and assaulting Police officers.

 

 

GNJILANE REGION

 

ROBBERY

At 1230 hrs a Serb male reported that he had been robbed of 2,700 DM and assaulted by 4 unidentified Albanian males in his house in RAJANOVCE during the night. No injuries were reported. The case is under investigation.

 

ARRESTS

Eleven individuals were arrested. KFOR arrested 8 individuals: seven - for curfew violation and one – for hit-and-run accident. UNMIK Police arrested 3 individuals: two – for drunk and disorderly and one – for counterfeiting. All the arrested are Albanians.

 

 

PRIZREN REGION

 

 

ARRESTS

Sixteen individuals were arrested. KFOR arrested 13 individuals for curfew violation. UNMIK Police arrested 3 individuals: two – for suspected war crimes and one – for counterfeiting.

 

 

MITROVICA REGION

 

ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY

At 1945 hrs, an individual knocked on the door of an Albanian male in MITROVICA South  introducing himself as KPC/TMK member and producing some sort of ID. When the door was opened, the suspect pulled a gun, stuck it to the victims’ throat and demanded money, weapon and the victims daughter. The victim grabbed the gun of the offender and after a fight the suspect fled the scene. UNMIK Police are investigating.

 

TRAFFIC ACCIDENT INVOLVING OSCE

At 0740 hrs, UNMIK Police responded to the traffic accident scene, where an OSCE vehicle collided with a local car on the road to MITROVICA. Four of five occupants of the OSCE vehicle were transported to the British hospital with the injuries of different extent. Three of those were subsequently released after the first aid. Two occupants of the civilian vehicle (Albanians) were transported to the PRISTINA hospital, where one of them died due to the injuries.

 

PEC REGION

 

The following incident occurred on 30/01/00

 

ILLEGAL WOOD CUTTING

At 1400 hrs, UNMIK Police arrested an Albanian male for illegal cutting of timber in Karagac Park in PEC.

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPONS

At 1500 hrs, KFOR confiscated one machine gun, 3 rifles, 2 hunting guns, one pistol, 3 hand grenades and ammunition from an Albanian male in KLINA.

 

DEAD BODY

At 1015 hrs UNMIK Police and KFOR responded to an Albanian males’ report of a (old) dead body in his well in the village of ZATRA but could not verify the find. The well was deep and full of water. ICTY was notified to check the location at a later date.

 

WEAPONS FOUND

At 1330 hrs, KFOR conducted a search of an abandoned residence in MIROC  and found: nine mine boxes, 37 AK-47 magazines, 900 cartridges, 5 helmets and 310 gasmasks.

 

 

BORDER POLICE

 

PRISTINA AIRPORT

 

Twelve Egyptians were detained by the Border Police after landing at PRISTINA Airport for illegal entry in KOSOVO. Eight of them were booked in the PRISTINA detention center for the same offence.

Five UN travel documents were seized after the individuals returned to KOSOVO. All cases turned over to investigations.
