SECURITY OVERVIEW

 

THE GENERAL SITUATION IN THE MISSION AREA REMAINS STABLE.

 

 

 

PRISTINA REGION

 

 

MURDER

At 20.37 hrs, an Albanian female (26 year old) was shot dead from AK-47 at the café “Loriku” in PRISTINA. The suspect (Albanian) was identified but remains at large. The father of the suspect had been wounded during the shooting too, but was released after the treatment in the hospital. UNMIK Police are investigating.

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPON

·         At 01 30 hrs, UNMIK Police stopped and checked a vehicle with five Albanian males in PRISTINA. One of the males was found in possession of a semi-automatic pistol with seven rounds of ammunition and a knife. The individual was arrested for further investigation.

·         At 16 45 hrs, KFOR confiscated a live hand grenade during the search of a vehicle in LIPLJAN. Three Albanian males were detained by UNMIK Police for questioning in connection with the incident.

 

ROBBERY

·         At 23 00 hrs, an Albanian male was stopped by two armed men on Ramiza Sadiku Street near the Orthodox Church in PRISTINA and robbed of money and neck chain. The investigation is ongoing.

·         At 23 00 hrs, three masked subjects tried to remove property from the yard of an Albanian family in the village of STRUBULOVO. When the owner of the house attempted to interfere, the suspects opened an automatic weapons fire and threw a hand grenade at the house. The hand grenade did not detonate and the suspects fled the scene. No one was injured in the incident. An AK-47 machine gun with 30 live rounds and 24 shell casing were discovered at the scene. According to the victim, the assailants were Albanians. UNMIK Police are investigating.

 

ARRESTS 

On 31/01/2000 four Egyptians were arrested by Border Police at PRISTINA Airport for illegal entry in KOSOVO.

During the past 24 hours five persons were arrested by UNMIK Police in PRISTINA Region. Two individuals were arrested for illegal possession of weapons, one for attempted burglary, one for theft and a subject was arrested for driving intoxicated.

 

GNJILANE REGION

 

THREATENING BEHAVIOR

At 1000 hrs a Serb female reported, that her Albanian neighbor in VITINA threatened her. UNMIK Police responded and warned the suspect.

 

GRENADE ATTACK

At 1755 hrs unidentified suspect(s) threw a fragmentation explosive device into the yard of a house, owned by a Serb in GNJILANE. No injuries were reported. The wall of the house and the windows were damaged.

 

GRENADE ATTACK

At 2010 hrs unidentified suspect(s) threw a fragmentation explosive device into the metal garage, owned by a Bosnian male in GNJILANE. No injuries were reported. The explosion damaged the adjacent house of the owner. The case is under investigation.

 

SUICIDE

At 1400 hrs an elderly Serb male committed suicide with a rifle. The victim shot himself in the abdomen and died at the spot. An M-48 rifle with 12 rounds was seized.

 

ARRESTS

Eight individuals were arrested. KFOR arrested six individuals for curfew violation and one – for weapon violation. UNMIK Police arrested an individual for assault.

 

 

 

PRIZREN REGION

 

 

ASSAULT

At 1430 hrs, an Albanian female reported that an unidentified juvenile male insulted and assaulted her at the bar in PRIZREN. No injuries reported. The case is under investigation.

 

ARMED ASSAULT

At 1150 hrs, an Albanian male approached the UNMIK Police in SUVA REKA with a shotgun wound to his back. The victim was transported by KFOR ambulance to the hospital. The suspect (Albanian male) also arrived to the station with the shotgun and ammo and was disarmed and detained. The case is under investigation.

 

ARMED ASSAULT

At 1320 hrs, an Albanian male reported to UNMIK Police in SUVA REKA that an identified Albanian female (the daughter of the suspect in the case, mentioned above) attacked him with a knife. Minor injuries were reported. The case is under investigation.

 

SUSPECTED MINE FIELD

At 1000 hrs an Albanian male reported that an area in SUVA REKA known as HISARI was believed to be mined during the conflict. KFOR was notified.

 

ARRESTS

UNMIK Police arrested three individuals: two – for theft and one – for armed assault.

 

MITROVICA REGION

 

MURDER

At 19 10 hrs, two unidentified masked men armed with AK-47 machine guns had open fire on three Albanian males in a local bar in SRBICA. One person was killed on the spot and two others sustained sever injuries. The investigation is pending.

 

 

PEC REGION

 

The following incident occurred on 31/01/00

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPON / AMMUNITION

At 0030 hrs, UNMIK Police and KFOR during a joint patrol searched the “Pizza-Prince” restaurant in PEC and arrested one Albanian male in possession of a pistol.

ASSAULT

At 1445 hrs, two Roma males reported that two Albanians came to their residence located in PEC  and assaulted them. UNMIK Police arrested both suspects.

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPON / AMMUNITION

At 1145 hrs, UNMIK Police and KFOR confiscated one machine gun and ammunition from an Albanian male in PEC. The suspect was arrested.                                   

 

ARRESTS

Four persons were arrested in PEC Region. Two suspects were arrested for illegal possession of weapon and two for assault.

 

BORDER POLICE

 

PRISTINA AIRPORT

 

An Albanian male was refused to fly Germany due to forged documents. Another Albanian male was deported from Switzerland due to a false German residence permit.

 

“VRBNICA” BORDER CROSSING

 

Because of a mild weather, UNMIK Police are concerned about land mines washing down onto the roads as snow melts.
