SECURITY OVERVIEW

 

The general situation in the mission area remained calm, but the city of MITROVICA was still unstable.

 

PRISTINA REGION

 

ASSAULT

At 2220 hrs, a passenger of a taxi driver (Albanian) sprayed some pepper substance on the face of driver (Albanian) in PODUJEVO. The suspect was arrested.

 

MURDER (Follow up)

With reference to the murder that was reported in DPU on 20/02/00, the vehicle used in the incident was spotted and stopped in PODUJEVO. Two Albanian males were identified and interviewed. The suspects were released after interviewing. The victim of the murder case was a Serb male.        

 

ARRESTS

An individual was arrested for reckless driving within the past 24 hours in PRISTINA Region.

GNJILANE REGION

 

ASSAULT

·         At 0755 hrs, an Albanian male reported that his child was assaulted by a male Serb in BERIVOJCE . KFOR is investigating.

·         At 1255 hrs, an Albanian male was assaulted while distributing electric bills by a male Serb in K.KAMENICA. KFOR is investigating.

 

ARRESTS

Five individuals were arrested within the past 24 hours. Two persons were arrested by KFOR for curfew violation and three suspects were arrested by UNMIK Police for assault.

PRIZREN REGION

 

The following incident occurred on 22/02/00

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPONS

At 2000 hrs, UNMIK Police along with KFOR conducted a search in a nightclub “Skenderbeur” in PRIZREN. During the operation, sixty customers were identified, searched and released.  UNMIK Police found an AK-47, one rifle, one pistol in possession of three owner/managers of the nightclub (Albanians). All three were arrested for further investigation.

 

The following incident occurred on 23/02/00

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPONS

From 1530 hrs to 1730 hrs, UNMIK Police and KFOR searched five houses in the area of DRAGASH. A shotgun and numerous ammunition were confiscated. Two Albanian males were arrested.

 

AUTO THEFT

At 0550 hrs, UNMIK Police stopped a vehicle with two occupants for routine check. The driver escaped but was later arrested on the way to Albanian border while using a taxi. The vehicle was hotwired and stolen. Blank documents, Albanian number plates, equipment for car theft and Albanian Police IDs were seized. Both arrested were identified as Albanian policemen. The investigation is pending.

 

ARRESTS

UNMIK Police arrested seven individuals within the past 24 hours in PRIZREN Region. Five suspects were arrested for illegal possession of weapons and two for a car theft. KFOR arrested two persons for curfew violation. All arrested are Albanians.

MITROVICA REGION

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPONS

During the weapons search operations, UNMIK Police and KFOR confiscated on two different occasion in MITROVICA North an AK-47, a pistol and ammunition. Both suspects are male Serbs.  

 

ILLEGAL HOUSE OCCUPATION

There were eight reports about illegal house occupation within the past 24 hours. In all cases Albanian owned property was occupied by Serbs in MITROVICA North. UNMIK Police are investigating

PEC REGION

 

The following incidents occurred on 22/02/00

 

MURDER

Unidentified suspect(s) shot at head and killed an Albanian male in DAKOVICA. There was no further information at the time of this report. KFOR is conducting the investigation.

 

INTIMIDATION / THREATS

At 2300 hrs, a Bosniac male was threatened to be killed by six unidentified suspects in VITOMIRICA. UNMIK Police is conducting the investigation.

 

HOUSE OCCUPATION

At 2130 hrs, a house owned by an Albanian male was occupied by another Albanian male in PEC. UNMIK Police brought the illegal occupant to the Police Station. Investigation is in progress.

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPON

KFOR confiscated an automatic weapon from the possession of an Albanian male in DAKOVICA. The suspect was arrested.

 

The following incidenst occurred on 23/02/00

 

INTIMIDATION / THREATS

At 0930 hrs, three armed Roma male suspects threatened a Roma male in DURAKOVAC. The incident occurred over a land dispute. KFOR is conducting the investigation.

 

THEFT (NGO Property)

At 0700 hrs, unidentified suspect(s) stole valuable items from an office belonging to the NGO – ‘Mother Teresa’ in RAKOS. KFOR is investigating the case.

 

UXO

At 2025 hrs, KFOR EOD disposed two cluster bombs in GREBNIK. No injuries were reported.

 

ARRESTS

Two suspects were arrests within the past 24 hours in PEC. A suspect was arrested for occupying a house illegally and another suspect was arrested for possession of a weapon.

BORDER POLICE

 

PRISTINA AIRPORT

Eleven individuals were rounded up by Switzerland Police and deported to PRISTINA.

 

“GLOBOCICA” Border Crossing

Due to heavy snowfall in last three days, roads are icy and slippery.  Uses of snow chains are recommended.

 

“VRBNICA” Border Crossing

On 22/02/00, in two separate incidents, three males attempted to enter into KOSOVO from Albanian through the VRBNICA border crossing. The suspects retreated while KFOR shot warning shots.
