THE GENERAL SITUATION IN THE MISSION AREA REMAINS STABLE

 

PRISTINA REGION

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPONS

At 1355 hrs, KFOR arrested an Albanian male who was in possession of a gas weapon, a 9 mm handgun and a false drivers license in PRISTINA. (Contact KFOR Press)

 

AUTO THEFT

At 1730 hrs, KFOR arrested an Albanian male for auto theft in PRISTINA. (Contact KFOR Press)

 

MISSING PERSON

An Albanian male reported that his mentally ill son has been missing since 15 January in PRISTINA.  The missing male is 22 years old, has black hair and black eyes. He was last seen wearing a black leather jacket and green pants. (Contact UNMIK Police Regional Press)

 

BURGLARY

At 1450 hrs, a complainant reported that the front door of the office of the NGO Mother Theresa was forced open and an electric generator was stolen in PRISTINA. (Contact UNMIK Police Regional Press)

 

ARRESTS

Four individuals were arrested in PRISTINA within the past 24 hours. Two individuals were arrested for auto theft. One individual was arrested for the illegal possession of a weapon and possession of a fake drivers license. One individual was arrested for possession of fake documents.

 

GNJILANE REGION

 

MURDER

At 2245 hrs, a Serb male was shot dead in the village of SURLANE. No suspects were identified. The case is under investigation. (Contact KFOR Press)

 

ASSAULT

Due to a family dispute, a pregnant Albanian female was assaulted by her husband in GNJILANE. The suspect was arrested. (Contact UNMIK Police Regional Press)

ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY

At 0143 hrs, five unidentified Albanian males attempted to steal a generator from a gas station outside GNJILANE. Two of the suspects were armed. The owner was trying to get his gun and the suspects fled the scene. No arrests were made. (Contact KFOR Press)

 

ARSON

An Albanian owned bakery was set on fire in VITINA. Minor damage was reported to the property. (Contact KFOR Press)

 

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

AT 1600 hrs, a Serb male reported that his bus was stoned in KAMENICA. Minor damage was reported to the bus. (Contact KFOR Press)

 

ARRESTS

UNMIK Police arrested 8 individuals in the past 24 hours. Three were arrested for burglary, 3 for auto theft, 2 for assault. All the arrested are Albanian.

 

PRIZREN REGION

 

ASSAULT

At 1150 hrs, an Albanian male assaulted an UNMIK Civil Administrator who works in the SUVA REKA Municipality Building. The victim has received death threats from the suspect in the past. The suspect was arrested by KFOR with the assistance of UNMIK Police. (Contact UNMIK Police Regional Press)

 

ARSON

At 1215 hrs, a fire was discovered at the cultural building in LJUBIZDA. The building has been abandoned for two months. The fire may have been caused by an electrical malfunction. The KFOR Fire Brigade responded and extinguished the fire. There were no reported injuries. (Contact UNMIK Police Regional Press)

 

ARRESTS

Six individuals were arrested in PRIZREN within the past 24 hours. KFOR arrested three individuals for curfew violations. UNMIK Police arrested one individual for assault and two individuals for theft.

 

MITROVICA REGION

 

ASSAULT

At 1400 hrs, a male Serb reported that another Serb assaulted him while he was parking his bus in MITROVICA North. No injuries were reported. (Contact UNMIK Police Regional Press)

 

ILLEGAL HOUSE OCCUPATION

At 1115 hrs, an Albanian male reported that Serbs were occupying his flat illegally in MITROVICA North.

At 1200 hrs, an Albanian male reported that two weeks ago he was forced to leave his flat by a group of Serbs in MITROVICA North. The flat is now occupied illegally by a Serbian family. (Contact UNMIK Police Regional Press)

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPON

At 2000 hrs, an Albanian male was detained by KFOR for illegal possession of weapon. A pistol was confiscated and after filing a report the suspect was released. (Contact UNMIK Police Regional Press)

 

AUTO THEFT

At 1425 hrs, an Albanian male reported that he had seen his stolen car in MITROVICA South. The car was being driven by an identified Albanian male. The suspect was arrested. (Contact UNMIK Police Regional Press)

 

DEMONSTRATION

AT 0830 hrs, 100 Serbs protested in front of the court building in MITROVICA North. The protest was against the appointment of Albanian judges. No incidents were reported. (Contact UNMIK Police Regional Press)

 

PEC REGION

 

The following incidents occurred on 17 January

 

ARSON

AT 2350 hrs, KFOR reported that an abandoned Serb owned house was set on fire in VITOMIRICA. KFOR Fire Brigade extinguished the fire. No reported injuries. (Contact KFOR Press)

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPON

At 2230 hrs, KFOR reported that the patrols confiscated in two different cases 4 assault rifles, two pistols, a hand grenade and ammo. Three Albanian males were arrested. (Contact KFOR Press)

 

GRENADE ATTACTK

At 0210 hrs, a RPG was launched through the window of a local restaurant in KLINA. The building was damaged extensively. No injuries were reported. (Contact KFOR Press)

 

UXO (UNEXPOLODED ORDINANCE)

At 1505 hrs, KFOR troops located 60 propelling charges for mortar grenades inside an abandoned house in DECANI. EOD disposed of the devices. (Contact KFOR Press)

 

ARRESTS

KFOR arrested three Albanian males for illegal possession of weapons.

 

BORDER POLICE

 

GENERAL SITUATION

 

PRISTINA airport is open and had 21 incoming passengers and 30 outgoing passengers yesterday.

 

All border crossings are open. Snow chains are required. Time to cross at General Jankovica is two hours.

 

During the time period covered in this report, 1,224 individuals crossed the borders legally. 792 cars and 514 heavy vehicles not in KFOR convoys crossed. 23 vehicles and 89 pedestrians were denied entry.
