SECURITY OVERVIEW

 

THE GENERAL SITUATION IN THE MISSION AREA REMAINS STABLE.

 

 

 

PRISTINA REGION

 

No significant criminal incidents were reported in Region PRISTINA during the period covered by this report.

 

ARRESTS    

One individual was arrested in PRISTINA within the past 24 hours for the illegal possession of weapons.

 

 

 

GNJILANE REGION

 

THREAT / INTIMIDATION

At 0815 hrs, unidentified suspects threatened to kill a Roma widow, if she did not vacate her accommodation in GNJILANE. UNMIK Police are conducting the investigation. 

 

UNEXPLODED ORDINANCE (UXO)

At 1405 hrs, there were several items next to the door of a complainant that looked like mines in KAMENICA. KFOR EOD removed the items, which turned to be several smoke and one CS grenades, without any problems.

 

ARRESTS

UNMIK Police arrested one suspect for attempted kidnapping in GNJILANE.

 

 

PRIZREN REGION

The following incidents occurred on 23/01/00

KIDNAPPING

A witness reported that two men in black clothes had come to the apartment of his neighbor-woman in PRIZREN and broke the entrance door. The offenders took the 29 years old woman and her two children (five and six year old) out of the house and drove away in a red “Mercedes” without number plates. UNMIK Police are investigating.

 

ARRESTS

On 23/01/00 two individuals were arrested by UNMIK Police in PRIZREN Region for illegal possession of weapons.

 

The following incidents occurred on 24/01/00. (Reported as FLASH REPORT)

 

ASSAULT

At 0930 hrs, an Albanian male shot his son with an AK-47 rifle in PRIZREN. The victim was transported to the Prizren hospital where his condition is listed as life threatening. UNMIK Police are conducting the investigation.

 

NO REPORT FOR 24/01/2000 RECEIVED DUE TO COMMUNICATION FAILURE.

 

 

MITROVICA REGION

 

No significant criminal incidents were reported in MITROVICA Region during the period covered by this report.

 

ARRESTS

Two Albanian males were arrested by KFOR for illegal cutting of wood in VUCITRN (Grid: 992 440).

 

 

PEC REGION

 

THREAT / INTIMIDATION

At 1100 hrs, UNMIK Police received a report that an Albanian female was intimidated by three men who identified themselves as “local police” in BEC. The suspects wanted to take the complainant’s 14 years old daughter to give a statement. KFOR is conducting the investigation.

 

ARREST

UNMIK Police arrested an Albanian male for illegal possession of weapon in PEC.

 

 

BORDER POLICE

PRISTINA AIRPORT

Due to weather conditions all flights were cancelled.

 

Due to the weather forecast and the rapidly changing road conditions the situation at the border crossings may be different from the below given information.

GENERAL JANKOVIC BORDER

KFOR closed the road for all incoming trucks. For all other vehicles, snow chains are required. 

GLOBOCICA BORDER

Two meters of snow was reported. The road conditions are very dangerous. No further information available.

CAFA PRUSHIT BORDER

This border crossing is closed due to 4 to 5 snow banks blocking the road.

VRBNICA BORDER
