SECURITY OVERVIEW

 

THE GENERAL SITUATION IN THE MISSION AREA REMAINS STABLE.

 

 

 

PRISTINA REGION

 

The following incident occurred on 26/01/00.

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPON

At 2130 hrs, during the search of a KPC / TMK member in LAPLJE SELO, KFOR recovered two side arms. The KPC / TMK member had authorization card for one of the arms only. The suspect was arrested.

 

The following incidents occurred on 27/01/00.

 

ROBBERY/INTERNATIONAL PERSONNEL 

At 0815 hrs, while traveling in a civilian vehicle, a male (French) was stopped and his vehicle was stolen by an unidentified suspect in PRISTINA . UNMIK Police are conducting the investigation.

 

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY

At 1830 hrs, in an attempt to commit robbery, two suspects (Albanians) entered a shop and sprayed at the face of the shopkeeper in PRISTINA. The victim defended himself and detained the suspects. The suspects were arrested and the victim was evacuated to hospital for treatment.

 

ARRESTS 

Ten individuals were arrested within the past 24 hours in PRISTINA. An individual was arrested for assault of an UNMIK Police Officer. Seven individuals were arrested for illegal possession of weapons. An individual was arrested for attempted robbery and an individual was arrested for robbery.  

 

TRAFFIC ACCIDENT/ KFOR 

At 1630 hrs, a civilian car (driven by an Albanian) hit and damaged a KFOR vehicle in PODUJEVO. There were slight damages caused to the KFOR vehicle. A KFOR soldier received minor injuries to his neck.

 

 

GNJILANE REGION

 

The following incidents occurred on 27/01/00

 

ASSAULT

·         At 0930 hrs, a Roma female was threatened with a knife and assaulted by her husband in KAMENICA. The victim was taken to the hospital.

·         At 2000 hrs, a dispute over ownership of a house resulted in threats and a fight between several Albanians in GNJILANE. No injuries were reported.

 

ARRESTS

UNMIK Police arrested two individuals: one - for assault and one – for curfew violation. On 26/01/ 00 UNMIK Police arrested four Albanian males in connection with a total of 29 burglaries of businesses and vehicles.

 

 

PRIZREN REGION

The following incident occurred on 26/01/00.

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPON

At 2348 hrs, two KPC / TMK members were arrested by UNMIK Police for illegal possession of weapons in PRIZREN.

 

ARSON

Unidentified suspect(s) set a house owned by Serb on fire in PRIZREN. Presently refugees occupy the house. There were no injuries. UNMIK Police are conducting the investigation.

 

BURGLARY

At 001 hrs, unidentified suspect(s) committed burglary in a house belonging to a male (Italian) in SUVA REKA. The suspect(s) stole valuable items. The victim has been working for a NGO - Centre for Women Organization. 

 

The following incident occurred on 27/01/00.

 

GRENADE ATTACK

At 1900 hrs, there was a grenade attack on a quarter owned by Serbs in ORAHOVAC. The property owned by a male Serb was damaged. However, no injuries were reported. No arrests were made. UNMIK Police are conducting the investigation.

 

ASSAULT

In connection with a traffic accident, two unidentified suspects (Albanians) assaulted a Roma male in GORNJE SELO.  UNMIK Police are conducting the investigation.

 

INTIMIDATION / THREAT

At 0520 hrs, a bar owner (Albanian) forced a male (Albanian) to go out and pointed a handgun at the victim in ORAHOVAC. The weapon was confiscated and the suspect was arrested by KFOR.

 

ARRESTS

Ten individuals were arrested within the past 24 hours in PRIZREN.  UNMIK Police arrested three individuals (2 for illegal possession of weapon and 1 for threatening others). KFOR arrested seven individuals for curfew violations.

 

MITROVICA REGION

 

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

From 2100 hrs to 2315 hrs unidentified suspect(s) slashed the tires of 16 UN vehicles. Most of the cars were parked in front of the UNMIK Police station in MITROVICA North.

 

ARMED ROBBERY

An Albanian male taxi driver reported that two unidentified males and a female threatened him with a gun. One of the suspects drove the car to the village of CUBRELJ, where the complainant was released, but the money and documents were taken. The case is under investigation.

 

GRENADE ATTACK

At 2255 hrs a grenade was thrown at a residence, owned by an Albanian female in MITROVICA South. Minor damage to the property. No injuries were reported.

 

ARRESTS

An individual was arrested for attempted murder.

 

PEC REGION

 

The following incidents occurred on 26/01/00

 

ARMED ASSAULT

At 1830 hrs KFOR reported that in the area of DAKOVICA a Roma male was seriously injured when he was shot by an identified Albanian juvenile. No further information was given. KFOR MP is investigating.

 

DRUGS

At 1840 hrs KFOR reported that in PEC an Albanian male was arrested after attempting to sell marijuana to KFOR soldiers. 200 grams of Marijuana was confiscated.

 

The following incidents occurred on 27/01/00

 

ARSON

At 1230 hrs KFOR reported that a house belonging to an Egyptian was set on fire in DECANI. No further information was given.
