SECURITY OVERVIEW

 

THE GENERAL SITUATION IN THE MISSION AREA REMAINS STABLE.

 

 

 

PRISTINA REGION

 

 

The following incidents occurred on 30/01/2000

 

ROBBERY/ INTERNATIONAL AGENCY

At 03 40 hrs, five individuals in unidentified type of a white vehicle stole some items and a safe from the office of  “ACT” (“Actions of Churches Together “) international organization in PRISTINA. The security guard was found tied but unharmed. UNMIK Police are conducting the investigation.

 

ASSAULT

A male Serb reported that at 17 00 hrs, ten Albanian males had assaulted him in KOSOVO POLJE. No further information available for the moment. UNMIK Police are investigating.

 

ARSON

At 17 55 hrs, an awning located in the courtyard of a Male Serb was set on fire by unidentified suspect(s). UNMIK police investigators discovered a path of footprints at the crime scene. The investigation is pending.

 

THREATENING BEHAVIOR

A male Goran reported that at 17 00 hrs, three unidentified males came to his shop and threatened him with a pistol, ordering to vacate the premises. UNMIK Police are investigating.

 

RAPE

An Albanian female reported that at 16 45 hrs, an Albanian male raped her at Dardanija Tunnel PRISTINA . The suspect was interviewed by UNMIK Police but denied the allegations.

 

ARRESTS 

Three individuals were arrested by UNMIK Police in PRISTINA Region during the past 24 hours. One suspect was arrested for attempted murder, one suspect was arrested for burglary and one for grenade attack.

 

 

GNJILANE REGION

 

The following incidents occurred on 29/01/2000

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPONS AND DRUGS

At 1030 hrs, KFOR conducted a search of a residence in G.KUSCE and seized 12 bags of marijuana seeds, 2 SKS rifles, a silencer, a pistol, a bayonet and various ammo. Two male Serbs were arrested.

 

UXO

At 1615 hrs, a local male (ethnicity was not ascertained) reported to KFOR several UXO items. An EOD team responded and confirmed an expended M60 fuse igniter and several inert M68 rockets near the village of BUTIJA. Then, a reporter pointed out a partially submerged MK British made cluster bomb. The area was marked.

 

The following incidents occurred on 30/01/2000

 

GRENADE ATTACK

At 1835 hrs, a grenade was thrown at a Serb owned house near the bus station in GNJILANE. No injuries were reported. The case is under investigation.

 

ARSON

At 1200 hrs, an abandoned Roma owned house in VITINA was reported on fire. The cause is suspected to be arson.

 

ARRESTS

KFOR arrested 8 individuals: six- for curfew violation and two for illegal weapons and drug possession.

 

 

 

PRIZREN REGION

 

 

COUNTERFEITING

At 1140 hrs, an Albanian male reported that he had got a counterfeited 100 USD bill from an identified Albanian male. At 1145 hrs, UNMIK Police arrested a suspect, who was in possession of seven counterfeited 100 USD bills. Two more suspects were identified. The case is under investigation.

 

ARRESTS

UNMIK Police arrested one individual.

 

 

MITROVICA REGION

 

The following incidents occurred on 29/01/00

 

THREATENING BEHAVIOR

An Albanian female received threats from her Serb neighbor in MITROVICA North.  The complainant was advised to vacate her apartment and to move to the southern part of the city. The case is under investigation.

 

The following incidents occurred on 30/01/00

 

ILLEGAL HOUSE OCCUPATION

An Albanian female in MITROVICA North reported that her flat was occupied, while she was at the hospital in PRISTINA. The case is under investigation.

 

 

PEC REGION

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPONS / AMMUNITION

·         At 0030 hrs, UNMIK Police and KFOR confiscated one pistol and ammunition from an Albanian in PEC. No further information was given at the time of this report.

·         At 0830 hrs KFOR reported that in G.STREOC their patrol found one pistol and ammunition in a vehicle occupied by two persons (ethnicity not given). Both individuals were arrested.

·         At 1500 hrs KFOR reported that their patrol found one assault rifle and ammo in a house belonging to an Albanian male in LJAUMBARDA. The owner of the house was arrested.

 

ARRESTS

Three individuals were arrested for illegal possession of weapons in PEC Region.

 

BORDER POLICE

 

PRISTINA AIRPORT

Five Yugoslavian citizens (ethnic Albanians) were denied exit to different European countries due to not valid documents. One Yugoslavian citizen (ethnic Albanian) was deported from Switzerland.

 

“G.JANKOVIC” BORDER CROSSING

The roads are partly icy. Caution is advised.

 

“GLOBOCICA” BORDER CROSSING

The road is reported to be in a good condition. The road was plowed. Snow chains are still recommended.

 

“VRBNICA” BORDER CROSSING

A large ice build-up reported on the road approximately 2 km from the border crossing. The area is hazardous for car traffic.

 

Three Albanians attempted to cross the border illegally. KFOR persuaded them to return to Albania.
