SECURITY OVERVIEW

 

THE GENERAL SITUATION IN THE MISSION AREA REMAINS RELATIVELY STABLE.

 

PRISTINA REGION

 

ARMED ROBBERY

At 2330 hrs, an Albanian male was robbed of his car in Pristina. The car was taken at gunpoint by four males driving a red “Jeep”

 

KIDNAPPING

At 1415 hrs, three suspects (two males and a female) in a dark color “Audi-80” car kidnapped an Albanian male from the village of TORINA.

 

ARMED ASSAULT

At 1900 hrs, during a confrontation at the premises of the grocery store on Mother Theresa street in PRISTINA one male was shot. His injuries are not life threatening. UNMIK Police arrested one suspect and identified another one. One handgun was seized.

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPONS

At 2028 hrs, KFOR identified two male Serbs responsible for shooting at a coffee bar in the village of JANJEVO. As both suspects were detained a large crowd gathered around KFOR units and suspects managed to escape. A handgun was found in a suspect vehicle and confiscated.

At 1355 hrs, a hand grenade was recovered by UNMIK Police while investigating a dispute at a Roma camp in PLEMENTINA.

At 2130 hrs, a fragmentation grenade was recovered from an Albanian male during a car stop at a checkpoint on the main road to KOSOVO POLJE. The suspect was arrested.

 

ASSAULT

At 1700 hrs, a male Serb assaulted two Albanian boys in KOSOVO POLJE. A suspect was detained by UNMIK Police, but later released for lack of evidence.

 

ILLEGAL HOUSE OCCUPATION

At 1600 hrs, an Albanian male reported that his flat was allegedly occupied by two KPS members. The flat had been already locked by suspects and the owner could not enter.

 

ARRESTS

Two individuals were arrested within the past 24 hours in PRISTINA Region. One was arrested for illegal possession of a weapon and one for armed assault.

 

GNJILANE REGION

 

ARMED ASSAULT

At 1315 hrs, a white UN vehicle (ICTY) came under attack approximately 6 km inside Serbia near DOBROSIN. Unidentified suspects fired at the vehicle and a driver (Irish National) sustained non-life threatening injuries. The victim was evacuated to Camp Bondsteel hospital. Prior to going into the area, the occupants of the vehicle were advised by Serbian police of the danger.

 

ASSAULT

At 0350 hrs, two identified Albanians assaulted another Albanian in a bar in GNJILANE. The victim sustained minor injuries and did not require medical attention. The suspects were arrested.

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPONS

KFOR conducted a search operation in GNJILANE.  The following items were confiscated from Albanian owned houses: two 30 round magazines, 7.62 ammo and photos of military interest.

 

ARRESTS

KFOR arrested two individuals for assault.

 

PRIZREN REGION

 

ARSON

At 2230 hrs, unidentified suspects burned a carport area of Albanian owned apartments in SUVA REKA. Minor damage was reported.

 

ASSAULT

At 0800 hrs, a Macedonian female reported that her husband’s nephew had assaulted her in PRIZREN.

 

At 1320 hrs, UNMIK Police officers arrested a KPC/TMK member for assaulting a female after a traffic accident in PRIZREN. The suspect resisted arrest and assaulted the officers. The officers were also surrounded by a mob, attempting to drag them out of the patrol vehicle when they tried to leave the spot. A police baton and a watch were lost during the action.

 

INTIMIDATION

At 1600 hrs, an Albanian male reported that he had received several threatening phone calls in PRIZREN. The suspect advised the complainant that he and his family would be killed if they did not move out of the house.

 

THEFT

At 1300 hrs, an Albanian female shop assistant noticed a male, trying to steal some good from a shop in PRIZREN. The suspect was locked inside the shop but broke the window and tried to escape. An UNMIK Police patrol chased the suspect and arrested him.

 

SUSPECTED MINE FIELD

At 1315 hrs, an Albanian male reported that he had found an anti-personnel mine with a trip wire attached in the woods near SLAPUZANE. KFOR EOD responded.

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPONS

KFOR conducted a search operation in DRAGASH. Two Albanian males were arrested for illegal possession of ammo.

KFOR found an AK-47 rifle with ammo in a car driven by an Albanian male at a checkpoint in MALISEVO.

 

ARRESTS

14 individuals were arrested. KFOR arrested 7 for curfew violation. UNMIK Police arrested 7, two for attempted murder, two for illegal possession of ammo, one for assault and one for grenade attack and one for theft,

 

MITROVICA REGION

 

ATTEMPTED MURDER

At 1445 hrs, one Russian KFOR soldier had been shot at and wounded by unidentified suspect in the vicinity of the UN Administration building in SRBICA, while a local Municipality Council meeting was taking place.

 

ARMED ROBBERY

At 0030 hrs, three uniformed armed men in masks stopped a car with two victims in the area of LEPOSAVIC and robbed them of a large amount of money.

 

INTIMIDATION

An Albanian female reported that a male Serb was making threatening comments and that she had received threatening phone calls. She lives in MITROVICA North.

 

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

An Italian female working for an NGO reported that at 1900 hrs, someone threw a rock at the window of her Albanian owned residence in MITROVICA North.

 

ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF WEAPONS

At 1745 hrs, five Albanian males were arrested in VICITRN in possession of weapons, ammunition and explosives. All five were arrested.

 

ASSAULT

An Albanian male reported that a group of Serbian children from the village of BANJA had attacked a group of Albanian children from the village of SUVO GRLO. No injuries were reported.

 

MISSING PERSON

A male Serb was reported missing since 27 February in MITROVICA North.

 

PEC REGION

 

SMUGGLING

At 1230 hrs, Tax officers at the KULINA tax office seized three trucks from Montenegro for having false invoices. The trucks were found to be carrying cigarettes and beer while the invoices showed the trucks contained bananas and fruit. This was done to avoid paying the custom tax. The trucks were seized.

 

ASSAULT

At 1255 hrs, a male Albanian reported that he was assaulted by another male Albanian near KLINA.

 

GRENADE ATTACKS

At 1000 hrs a female Albanian reported that during the night some unknown persons had thrown a grenade into her shop in DAKOVICA causing minor damage. The victim stated that this was the third grenade attack on her shop. No injuries were reported.

At 0900 hrs, a male Albanian reported that some unknown persons threw a grenade into his café bar in ISTOK. The bar was closed, no injuries were reported, just property damage.

 

DEAD BODIES FOUND

At 2310 hrs in ISTOK, KFOR located the remains of a dead Serbian Police officer near the castle.

 

BORDER POLICE

 

SMUGGLING OF WEAPONS

On 28 February UNMIK Police discovered twelve shotguns and 250 rounds of ammunition in the luggage of a passenger bus. One suspect was arrested

 

ARSON

On 29 February, UNMIK Police responded to a vehicle fire in the village of GENERAL JANKOVIC. The owner of the vehicle said it was arson but could give no reason someone would do it.
