Mirse erdhet, Dobro dosli,
Welcome to the United Nations interterim Mission in Kosovo Police
web site. As the Commissioner of UNMIK Police, I am pleased you have
chosen to visit us and I feel quite confident you will enjoy the wealth
of information as you click and browse through our page.
Before you get started, please allow me to provide you with a brief
background. When I first arrived in early July of 1999, I was greeted
with abandoned streets, few open shops with little merchandise, a
Province in complete turmoil and people who could only look with despair
towards the future.
Our mission was unique. Previous UN Peacekeeping missions took the form
of monitoring. We were tasked as law enforcers, the only law enforcement
agency in Kosovo. With the authourity of a UN Resolution, the promise of
International Police, assistance from KFOR and other Non-Government
Organizations, we set about our task. The conditions were demanding and
expectations high. They were and are still difficult times. But, with
the arrival of excellent human resources and increasing logistical
support, we have made significant gains. We are proud of where we are
today; we look forward to success of tomorrow.
I encourage you to visit all the topics, see the ups and downs
experienced from the beginning. Please take time to sign our Guest Book
and offer your comments. Tell your friends this web page is a must to
view as they search the Internet highway. We are excited to tell our
story to the world. We hope you enjoy it as much as we are proud to
present it.
With kind regards,
