Initially 3,110 police officers has been approved for UNMIK.
Secretary-General Kofi Annan on 26 October 1999 recommended that
the Security Council increase the strength of the UNMIK police
force by more than 1,600 officers, after receiving a
recommendation from Dr. Kouchner that the force should be
significantly increased. Mr. Annan urged the Council to
increased the force strength to 4,718 ( including 1100 special
police) to ensure that UNMIK had a police service that could
enforce and maintain civil order.
As of 1 Dec 2000, UNMIK has 4450 international police and 3135
KPS officers deployed in all five regions of the province and at
border crossings.
